Be Gentle

While we often revel in the belief that we are all here to fulfill some great destiny, that each one of us is special and unique in some way, let us also remember that with greatness comes the responsibility to care. Let us learn to walk gently upon the earth. For such a destiny is hardly worthwhile if it leaves within its wake a trail of emptiness and betrayal. Let us learn to walk gently upon the earth, aware at every point that what we take from her is always far far greater than what we will ever be able to give back. Let us learn to walk gently upon the earth, ever inspired by what we can achieve in this life, but also deeply cognizant of how connected we are to the earth, and how fragile our existence is, here within these physical realms.

In the Sanskrit/Vedic texts, there is a line that asks for Mother Earth's forgiveness that we place our feet upon her and weigh her down, ~ "Paadasparsham Kshamasvame ||" ~ "forgive me, Mother, for placing my feet upon you." Such is the level of reverence the ancient ways demanded of us for the earth.

Master, when I touched
my forehead to
the ground in your temple,
a rose petal
brushed by my face
a gust of wind.
She whispered
to me of
her great joy
she had lain
upon your feet
for one precious moment
in all of time.
Wherever the wind now took
her she would go
keeping the memory
of that
moment alive.

If one moment with you
could give
her a lifetime of
how many lifetimes
of mine should now be
lived in joy
for you have held me
in your embrace
ever since
I know.

I couldn’t bring myself
to raise my head
from the ground
as gratitude
for your

When I sing your name
and know your
presence to be
unfailing within me,
When I cast away
the doubt that a screeching world
nurtures within minds, young and old,
When I cry tears of joy
as the boundless
grace of your love,
brought alive by the remembrance of your name
in song
in word
and in thought,
empowers me to know this path
as that of truth,
this path you
have laid out for me,
And when I kneel
before your light
within the temple of wisdom,
at the altar of my own mind,
the last shreds of fear
are blown away on winds
of faith,
All that I am,
I know to be you.

I Am Here

I am the wave that reaches
for the sky.
I yearn to be free
the rocks. They beckon to me,
day and night.

I am the ocean, vast and powerful.
I greet
the mighty rivers,
and we celebrate
and mourn
the end of their wondrous journeys.
We roar
with laughter
and I dissolve their tears.

I am the wind that never rests.
I hold the waves
in my embrace
and we love one another,
and dance together,
into the moonless night.

I am yearning. I am freedom.
I am bondage and I am joy. I merge and I separate. I change every day
and yet
I never do.

Come sit by me and watch. Drop the veil and listen.
Like no one's there.
You can tell me your story and I
will tell you mine.

O Beautiful Child

I see
sparkles of joy
and many hues of happiness
that light up your eyes each time
I look into them.

your gurgling laughter
gives way to a roaring silence
made loud by thoughts
from a mind such as yours,
so young it would seem,
yet dazzled
by the light of your soul
that is from a long time ago.

As you gaze at your world,
trying ever so hard
to make sense of it all,
your smile never fades.
Perhaps in communion
with yourself
do you find the answers
you longingly seek.

I am struck by the brilliance
that shines in those eyes
for in them I see
a knowing so resolute
of what you have come here
to be.

In your eyes, sweet child
a whole new world
It waits, patiently
for its time.

Sitting before thee,
I am bathed by the light
that flows from the depths of your Soul
On wings of silence,
As well at the heart of words.
Your Words.
Encased in the profoundness of your
Adorned by your quietness.

pours forth in great measure
From thee
And the blazing light within my
fiery soul
Rises up in rapture to greet yours.

In that moment I am blinded
By harmony.

Then, when you are gone,
I can see once again,
But this time
More than ever before.

A Silent Prayer

Eternal, Energetic,

Celebrating the colourful extravagance
the scintillating beauty
and the mystical melody
that is India.

But let not the drum beats of the dhol
drown out my silent prayer
for an India
where the desperation of selfish pursuit
has not dimmed
the lights of compassion.
Where humility prevails
over arrogance
and where timeless wisdom is not forgotten
amid the dust on pages
of worn out books.

Where knowledge
is not confined to the hallowed halls of a few,
but is given and claimed
with equal zest.
Where hearts beat with great pride,
yet where pride
has not lost its way
into the murky waters of zealousness.
Where hope is honored over cynicism,
and where each day holds the promise
of transformation,
the conviction of a new beginning.
